An exceptional leadership program designed to educate, inspire and prepare academically-motivated high school students…

Presented by the Freedoms Foundation, Service Learning in Public Policy is an advanced leadership development program for high school achievers who want to be catalysts for positive change in their world. The week-long program, which will be held July 29 - August 3 at the Freedoms Foundation's Valley Forge, PA campus, will include:

  • Meaningful service learning opportunities
  • Public policy courses and discussions
  • Leadership development and communications workshops
  • Presentations and discussions with college admissions officers to help students prepare for the college application process

Award-Winning Curriculum

The program curriculum is based on Project Citizen, a national civics education program developed by the Center of Civic Education and funded by the U.S. Congress through the U.S. Department of Education. This award-winning curriculum educates and empowers students so that they can monitor and engage students through active participation in their government.

Class Selection

Students are invited to attend the program through a nomination from their school (such as a teacher, guidance counselor or principal) or a community leader. Selections are based on the following criteria:

  • Students in 9th, 10th or 11th grade who show leadership potential and a desire for community service
  • Strong academics (minimum 3.5 weighted GPA)

The program will provide students with the opportunity to explore issues that interest them while meeting and working with other students who are equally motivated and gifted.

Build Your Resume for College

Each student will receive a certificate verifying program participation. Students are strongly encouraged to list their conference participation on their college applications. Program staff will be willing to write letters of recommendation commensurate with the performance of the student.
