Officers & Directors

Our officers and directors are the key to fulfilling our mission to Educate, Honor and Challenge.  They donate their time in support of this mission.  They attend monthly board meetings (usually the first Thursday of each month), chair or serve on one or more of our committees, carry our message to the community, and invite others to be involved.

Larry Brasher

Larry and his wife, Anne, are the parents of 7 children and have 32 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildreen.

In 1972 he received a BA degree in business management from the University of Utah, and in 1975 a Juris Doctor, also from Utah.  Rather than practice law he joined the family wholesale auto auction business, serving 33 years as CEO of West Coast Auto Auctions.  He is a past president of  the National Auto Auction Association.

After retiring in 2003, Larry and Anne served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kiev, Ukraine and Vladivostok, Russia.  In 2014-2016 they served another mission in Helsinki Finland.  Currently both serve in the Sacramento LDS Temple.


Emily Matthews

Emily Matthews is a mother of 5 children ages 12-20 and has enjoyed being a stay at home mom with her kids.  She received her bachelor’s degree in history from Brigham Young University and loves to read and travel to learn about new places and the history there.  She has spent many years involved in volunteer work in her church and community, and has served in a variety of positions in school PTC organizations, including president for 3 years. Having a great love of music, Emily started an elementary school choir for 4th, 5th and 6th graders and that choir is in its 10th year of performing throughout the community.  She attended the Freedoms Foundation Summit at Valley Forge last spring for the first time and looks forward to working with students to give them this unique opportunity.

Graduate of Brigham Young University in the Business program which has helped her as co-owner of Folsom Lake Ford and Folsom Lake Kia in Folsom. Associate’s Degree in Interior Design which is only a hobby used to build 3 homes.

Pam is married to Steve Fronk, an Optometrist with Sierra Eye Care Associates in Jackson.  Together, they have 11 children and 30 grandchildren

Gary McFadyen began his career in communications and marketing in 1975. He was Publicity Director of the Sacramento Music Circus, now California Music Theater and Broadway Sacramento, for 12 years before beginning his own advertising and public affairs agency. Gary was VP of Marketing at American Mutual Benefits and founded HoldOn Communications in 2008 and is its managing partner today.

Gary has served on a number of non-profit boards including as VP Marketing on the Executive Board of the Golden Empire Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Today he serves as member of the board of directors for California Pioneer Heritage Foundation and is Communication Director for Bright Water Foundation, a non-profit organization working to eliminate waterborne disease in developing countries.

Gary currently serves his church as a public affairs & communication specialist for the North America West Area. He and his wife, Debbie, are the parents of 4 children and grandparents of 9. Gary is inspired by the mission of the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, and the positive things that the participating high school students experience and achieve through their involvement.

Reed is a CPA that focuses in the area of taxation and helps his clients with various tax and business planning needs.  He is the managing principal of Clifton Larson Allen’s Sacramento office and has been in practice for over 20 years, all in the Sacramento area.  Prior to joining Clifton Larson Allen, Reed spent 11 years working with two different Big Four accounting firms.  Reed graduated from Brigham Young University in 1997 with both a BS degree in Accounting and a Master’s degree in Taxation.  Reed and his wife Emily have five children.


Nancy Pinney

Nancy is one of the founding board members of the Sacramento Chapter of the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, Sacramento Chapter.  She is married to Jan Pinney and they have eight children, 25 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  Nancy attended UC Santa Barbara and entered the insurance business immediately thereafter.  Along with her husband and son, Ryan, she owns Pinney Insurance Center, Inc., a national Life insurance brokerage agency, home officed in Roseville, CA.  The whole Pinney family has an interest in history and politics and enjoy many lively debates at family functions.  Nancy enjoys golf, all kinds of water sports and travel, but her favorite is being a grandmother!

Mayar is a senior at Whitney High school and will serve as the Northern Section Vice President of the California Future Business Leaders of America Association in the coming year. She’s been involved in the FBLA program for 3 years and helped build the foundation of the Whitney FBLA chapter. In her free time, she loves working with local businesses to gain work experience and performing in school plays and musicals. Mayar was also on the track & field team for 2 years as a hurdler, she also served on the Rocklin District Equity Committee, and started the Wildcat Cello Club at Whitney that works in cooperation with the Cello Chocolate company, a non-profit supporting student education through scholarships. She is very excited to serve on the Freedoms Foundation Student Directory Board due to her interest in U.S. history and willingness to serve her community.


Craig Anderson



Craig Anderson lives in Sacramento with his wife Sandra. They have two children, three grandchildren, and one great grandson. He worked for 32 years as an operations manager for Chevron Corporation in the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California followed by 15 years working as a management consultant in North and Central America.

Having a long time interest in genealogy and history, he applied and was accepted for membership in the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) in 2011. He currently serves in leadership positions in both the Sacramento Chapter and the California State Society. Four generations of his family are members of the SAR.


Andrew Carico


Dr. Andrew D. Carico serves as Associate Professor and chair of both the Public Policy and the Division of Humanities at William Jessup University. He earned his Ph.D. in political science from Claremont Graduate University, and his doctoral work was in the area of presidential rhetoric, with an emphasis on the constitutional rhetoric of the Obama presidency. More broadly, his research and teaching interests lie in the fields of American politics, constitutional law, and political philosophy.

Dr. Carico has written for The Public Discourse and Starting Points Journal, and he has presented original research at multiple academic conferences. He is also currently working on a book project analyzing the origins and meaning of the presidential oath. He hopes to inspire his students to understand the importance of political engagement and to cultivate civic virtue. Dr. Carico’s wife, Allie, is a school administrator, and they have two children.

Claire is a senior at John Adams Academy. She loves the performing arts and is involved with the Choir and Drama programs at JAA. Claire has played the piano for 10 years and has recently picked up the guitar and ukulele. She aspires to be an architect and is excited for the years ahead. As a member of the National Honor Society, she enjoys serving the community with family and friends.

Sowmya Gudapati is a current senior at Rocklin High School, she plays on the varsity tennis team and volunteers at Sutter Roseville Medical Center. She aspires to be a doctor and is very passionate about serving the community as part of Interact, Key club, NHS, and CSF. She likes to read, paint, and write, serving as one of Freedoms Foundation’s newsletter writers and she loves learning about American history.


Isabelle Hanson

Isabelle is a senior at Placer High School. She runs Cross Country and Track, is President of Key Club, and has been in ASB Leadership as well as VAULT. She loves math, getting involved in school, as well as participating in and organizing community service. Isabelle spends her time doing anything in the outdoors, traveling the world with her family, or reading. She attended the SOA trip to Valley Forge, and has a passion for early American history.

Sean Jensen

Sean has over 20 years of experience in web design, computer building, maintenance, and repair. He has been heavily involved in Statewide Elections and Campaign Finance and Lobbying. Along with these experiences, he is a Spanish translator.

He earned a Double BA in Spanish and Sociology and a Masters in Spanish.

As a service, he teaches Spanish and English online to individuals in the United States, Germany, Spain, Belarus, Estonia, Russia, Ukraine, and Colombia. Currently, he is learning Russian, as his third language.

Sean and his family have a strong passion for serving others, cooking, learning about new types of cuisines, cultures, and customs, traveling, genealogy, building family unity, and improving their musical talents.

Lastly, Sean is very grateful to have the opportunity and privilege to be part of the Sacramento Chapter of the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge.

Gary Johnson

Gary Johnson joined the Air Force at 17 years old and served for 6 years, including a tour of duty in Vietnam.   Following his service in the Air Force Gary served 26 years in the Coast Guard Reserve.

He received an Associate of Art Degree in Political Science from American River College, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Sacramento, as well as  a Masters of Arts Degree in Quality Systems Management.

Gary served two years as an officer with the Placer County Sheriff’s Department, and 30 years with the California Department of Consumer Affairs and the Department of Justice.  He is currently working as a realtor with Home Smart I Care Realty.

Gary also serves on the Roseville Joint Union High School Board, with the United States Volunteers, and the Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals and in the United States Volunteers Honor Guard.

Joy is an avid debater, reader, and writer. She has two younger siblings, and often plays the role of mediator in their squabbles. On sunny summer days, she can be found walking trails with friends and on dark winter nights she can be found curled up in an armchair, reading. She is a Silver Key recipient in Flash Fiction from the Scholastic Art and Writing awards and a state qualifier in Public Forum debate.

Ian enjoys interacting with other students.  He plays volleyball for Rocklin High School and is an Eagle Scout.  He loves nature and enjoys spending time outdoors.  A loyal employee at In-N-Out, he is dedicated to “saving the world one burger at a time.”  Ian’s older sister participated in the Spirit of America program and his parents are both actively involved.  He loves his family and his pet goldfish, Jön!

Carrie spent the first 13 years growing up in Southern California, but moved with her family to Northern Virginia at the beginning of Middle School in large part because of her dad’s love for history and government. Roaming the museums and monuments of Washington DC became her favorite past time throughout High School which instilled a deep love for our country in her heart! She and her husband Scott have spent the last 17 years in Northern California. They have 4 sons from ages 9-17. Carrie graduated with a BS in psychology from Brigham Young University. She enjoys hiking and beaching with her family. Carrie loves that the Freedoms Foundation program goal is to motivate Americans to serve a cause greater than themselves and to join together in common purpose even with differing opinions.

Jonathan is a senior at Lincoln High School.  He participated in the Spirit of America program at Valley Forge during his sophomore year and has been involved on the Student Council and the Freedoms Foundation Service Club at Lincoln.  He is interested in  robotics and has also been involved in the Robotics Club at Lincoln.


James Rodda

James is currently a senior at John Adams Academy, in Roseville; He enjoys sports and plays both varsity basketball and volleyball for the John Adams Patriots. He also works at his grandpa’s store, Pottery World, in Rocklin, moving and setting up fountains, pots, and all manner of heavy objects. He participated in the SOA trip to Valley Forge and had an unforgettable experience. James is the second oldest in his family of nine kids, and looks forward to participating in the Freedoms Foundation organization.
