Why Freedom Will Always Matter In America

The Stephenville Empire-Tribune recently featured an opinion article written by Capt. Russell Arendell.  Capt. Arendell received the George Washington Honor Medal in 1964 for his military essay on “What I Can Do For Freedom.”   In the article Capt. Arendell writes, “While instructing at the U.S. Navy Supply Corps School located in Athens, Georgia, I submitted a composition regarding ‘What I Can Do for Freedom.’ Periodically I enjoy reading it to see if I have changed my thoughts in any way. I haven’t, and it really seems appropriate at this time in our country. It was written 56 years ago and seems to stand the challenge of time.”
